Small Incision Surgery for AV Canal Defect

Treated by Dr. Aditya Kumar Singh , Max Super Speciality Hospital, Saket

Jan 16, 2024

Hritesh Kumar, a young, medical student, had episodic bouts of chest pain, which made him do an ECG. In the reports, doctors found heart issues. At this stage, the family consulted Dr. Aditya Kumar Singh, Associate Director & Unit Head, CTVS, Max Smart Hospital, Saket, Delhi, India, who evaluated to confirm the case of AV Canal Defect—a congenital heart issue. As a result of this condition, the wall separating the four chambers of the heart was partially deficient and three of the heart valves were found defective. This caused mixing of blood in heart and overflow in lungs with deficient flow to the body. Dr Aditya advised small incision surgery with closure of the deficient separating walls and repair of heart valves. The nature of the surgery facilitated a smooth recovery process. Today, Mr. Kumar is attending to every aspect of his life in a normal and functional manner.
