Blastocyst transfer can increase your chances of conceiving.

Pregnancy is something that brings a lot of joy among women and their families. Having your own child can make you feel things that are indescribable. However, not every woman conceives naturally and there can be many factors responsible for that. In such cases, they choose IVF but are still worried whether it would be successful or not. In recent times, there are lot of techniques by which the success rate of IVF can be increased. Out of many, one is the Blastocyst transfer, so read on to know more about it.

What is a Blastocyst transfer and how does it work?

Blastocyst transfer is a process in which one or more than one embryos are transferred at a very advanced stage, known as the blastocyst stage. This embryo transfer is generally done in the fifth day of the follicular aspiration i.e. removal of eggs from the ovary for fertilizing them in the laboratory. This is either done through the process of Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) or through In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF).

Once the egg is fertilized, it begins to divide and forms an embryo. The stages of this respective development are as follows:

- The first day is the pronuclear stage (fertilization of the egg)
- The second day is the two-to-four cell stage
- The third day is the eight-cell stage
- The fourth day is the morula stage
- The fifth day is the blastocyst stage

Normally, the doctor puts in one or more than one embryo in a woman’s uterus after two or three days post egg retrieval. This procedure is known as the embryo transfer. The embryos also develop in the incubator until the fifth day, which is the blastocyst stage due to improved cell culture media (blastocyst culture). However, when the doctor transfers these day 5 embryos into a woman’s uterus, it is known as blastocyst transfer.

How can you make a blastocyst transfer a success?

The whole process of Embryo Implantation can be a nerve-wracking one. However, you can follow a few steps to ensure that the chances of success are more and they are the following:

- Consult a reputed and experienced doctor:

The most important part in the process of blastocyst transfer is selecting the right doctor for the job. Make sure that you choose a very experienced and reputed doctor, who has a very impressive success rate. Having a doctor like that will help improve your chances of getting pregnant.

- Rest after embryo transfer:

Usually after embryo transfer, one to two hours of rest is sufficient till the results are out. Full time bed rest is usually not required which is the most common myth among people. Women can resume their routine chores except for heavy weight lifting or exertion and can resume offices if working. They should abstain from alcohol or smoking or any outside food. All these factors help in implantation of the blastocyst in the uterus thus increasing chances of success.

- Be happy:

Your mental well-being plays a huge part in determining your physical condition. So try to remain stress free as much as you can after your blastocyst transfer. Low stress levels can help in making the implantation a success.

- Folic acid:

Folic acid is one of the best things you can put in your body, especially after a blastocyst transfer. Studies have shown that appropriate amounts of folic acid improves the implantation chances. A folic acid supplement can also decrease the risk of birth defects. However, consult your doctor regarding the dosage and method, before taking folic acid supplements.

Becoming a mother or becoming parents to a healthy baby is something many people look forward to. With medical advancement happening in leaps and bounds, nothing should stop you from experiencing the joy of having a child. Choose the best infertility treatment hospital in India
