Once your child is diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, you might start looking at different ways of parenting. Here are a few tips to help you begin on the journey:

  1. Try to connect with more parents with the same journey in your community, this will be of great support for you to keep learning how to deal with your child as well as your child will have a common forum to spend time with.
  2. Focus on the positives, every child benefits from positive reinforcements. Rewards all good activities. Please remember your child is a beautiful individual who is unable to connect with the outside world. Teach your child to continue exploring the inside beauty.
  3. Staying consistent and on schedule is a need for your child, and you have to take responsibility for it. Also include play in it. BE PATIENT. Your child might take some time to respond to your routine.
  4. Don’t try to keep your child away from the world, get them used to day-to-day activities. Take them to run errands like grocery shopping, other similar activities so they are used to the real world around them.
  5. Educate yourself about Autism and teach the same to other caregivers of your child.

Most importantly, TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF. ITS A LONG JOURNEY, YOU NEED STRENGTH. (Remember to take breaks for yourself)
