Globalization has led to many new financial opportunities & urbanization with a lot of disadvantages, one of them being the impact on the reproductive health of an individual. Statistics shows a premature decline in fertility in males as well as females.
In this goal oriented lifestyles, one sometimes is in a dilemma, whether to opt for financial remunerations, job opportunities, job stability or go ahead and plan a family.
Literature suggests that a Man's age, is not significantly detrimental to his fertility prospects but a woman's age has a definite direct impact on the fertility aspect. There is a reason for this difference, as a woman is born with a fixed no of eggs in her ovaries at birth. There are no new formation of eggs after birth hence when a female reaches to the age of 45 -48 yrs , she is exhausted of her ovarian reserve and hence menopause sets in. Whereas in a male, the sperm production occurs every 3 months until he is alive, hence a man at any age has sperms not more than 3 months old. So the fertility of women are getting exhausted at a particular rate, every month irrespective of pregnancy and birth control pills.
There is also a premature decline in female due to discrepancy in the chronological age (assessed by date of birth) & biological age ( ovarian age /age of eggs , assessed by blood test & ultrasound ). Normally, the biological age and the chronological age should go hand in hand. It's the biological age which determines the probability of getting pregnant.
There are no definite causes for this premature decline, but it may get affected due to stress, environmental pollutants, alcohol, cigarette smoking, sedentary lifestyles etc.
There is a sharp increase in the incidence where in the biological age is advanced in comparison of the chronological age because of the sedentary lifestyle. This means, if a woman is of 30 yrs (date of birth), her biological age is around 35-37yrs.
It is thus essential to get the fertility quotient assessment done which includes blood test, ultrasound, semen analysis for spouse and a consultation with a fertility expert.
The fertility Quotient Assessment package is available at Max Panchsheel Park and Max hospital Gurgaon.
