Heart attack symptoms in real life are not always as dramatic as seen in movies. Seldom patients report vague discomfort that may not be a clear indication of a Heart attack. Heart attack symptoms in men are slightly different from those in women.

According to some research, men are at higher risk of suffering from a Heart attack as compared to women. Some of the common Heart attack symptoms in men which  require immediate medical attention are as below:

Early Symptoms before a Heart Attack:

  1. Chest Discomfort
  2. Shortness of Breath
  3. Unusual Fatigue
  4. Indigestion
  5. Anxiety
  6. Sleep Disturbances
  7. Pain in the Arms

Chest Pain

Chest Pain is the most common Heart attack symptom in men. However, the nature and intensity of chest pain can vary from person to person. Many Heart attack survivors have reported different types of pains. Some feel as if their heart was being squeezed or was pulled by a rope around it, while other survivors report a feeling of heavy pressure on the chest as if something heavy was kept right in the middle of the chest. Any unusual pain, when experienced around the chest, should be immediately reported to the doctor.

Upper Body Pain

Pain in the arms, below the chest and up in the jaw and neck can also signify a Heart attack. In cases where there is little or no pain in the chest, it becomes difficult for the person to identify it as a Heart attack when people do not have any cardiac arrest symptoms. The presence of these symptoms apart from or with chest pain, need immediate medical attention.

Shortness of Breath

Breathlessness after mild or no exertion is something to watch out for. Of all the Heart attack symptoms in men that do not cause pressure or pain, shortness of breath is one that needs to be taken seriously and requires medical help.

Dizziness and Cold Sweats

Light-headedness, feeling sick in the stomach, and breaking out in cold sweat are other vague symptoms that indicate a Heart attack. Intense dizziness which may feel like fainting needs doctor consultation as soon as possible.

Racing Pulse and Anxiety

Anxiety and racing pulse when coupled with chest pain or any other symptom mentioned above, could indicate real trouble. Any sudden overwhelming sense of anxiety should be reported to the doctor immediately for the required treatment.

Warning signs vary from person to person, and they may not always be apparent, sudden, and severe. Advise your patients to seek medical help urgently if they experience any of the above symptoms.

Adapting lifestyle modifications like limited intake of alcohol, fatty foods, and red meat can help in maintaining a healthy heart.
