Our team of Neurologists are available round-the-clock for diagnosis, treatment and management of patients. We have state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging modalities like 3T MRI, Transcranial Doppler, CT Scan, and more.

Department of Neurosurgery & Spine

Neurosurgery deals with diseases of Brain, Spinal Cord, Spine and the Nervous system. Conditions such as trauma (Cranio-Spinal trauma), Brain Tumours, Intracranial Aneurysms, Arteriovenous Malformation, Hydrocephalus, Brain Abscess affect the brain and spinal cord. It is of utmost importance that these are diagnosed and treated in a timely manner. We at Max Institute of Neurosciences, have a team of dedicated, highly qualified and experienced Neurosurgeons, Neuroanaesthetists, Intensive Care Specialists and other technical support staff. The department has all the latest equipment for successfully carrying out neurosurgical operations.

Department of Interventional Neurology

The Department of Interventional Neurology treats and manages some of the most complicated brain diseases in a minimally invasive way. The team is enriched with specialists skilled to do delicate and high precision procedures through the intra-arterial/intravenous route, providing no trauma, fast recovery, and minimal post surgery complications. At Max Institute of Neuroscience Department of Interventional Neurology, we ensure deliverance of international class patient centric service. Where ethics and morality are the guiding principles on which the foundation of the department is laid. Our focus is to provide comprehensive Stroke Management & Treatment.

Conditions treated and Procedures performed

A stroke or brain attack is a condition in which the brain cells suddenly die due to a lack of oxygen. It can be caused by an obstruction in the blood flow or the rupture of an artery that feeds the brain. The Department of Neurology and Stroke provides timely treatment available with minimally invasive treatment options.

A headache or cephalalgia refers to pain anywhere in different areas of the head or neck. This includes the nine pain-sensitive structures, which include the cranium (the periosteum of the skull), muscles, nerves, arteries and veins, subcutaneous tissues, eyes, ears, sinus and mucous membranes.

Parkinson’s disease is a progressive condition that leads to shaking (tremors) and difficulty with walking, movement, and coordination. Symptoms may be mild at first, but attention is required to manage its symptoms. At the Max Institute of Neurosciences, our experts are experienced in treating and managing Parkinson’s Disease.

A brain tumour is an abnormal growth of cells/tissue within the brain or the skull vault. Brain tumours may be benign or malignant; the team at Max Institute of Neurosciences is fully equipped to treat those with a range of diagnostic and therapeutic technologies and personalised treatment plans.

In multiple sclerosis, the communication within the brain, and between the brain and body is disrupted. It is caused by damage to the myelin sheath, a protective covering that surrounds nerve cells. Multiple sclerosis is a chronic, unpredictable and often disabling disease which affects the central nervous system, spinal cord and optic nerves. It is categorised as an autoimmune disease caused by the immune system attacking and damaging the nervous system.

Seizures are episodes of disturbed brain function, caused by abnormally excited electrical signals in the brain. Epilepsy is not a psychological illness, and it is a term used to describe recurrent seizures caused by increased firing in the brain cells resulting in short-circuiting of the brain circuits.

Neuromuscular conditions is a broad term that encompasses many diseases and ailments that impair the functioning of the muscles. These may directly involve the muscle directly or indirectly by involving the nerves or the Neuromuscular junction (the meeting point of the motor nerves and muscle fibre).

The spine makes up an important part of the nervous system and conditions that affect the brain may also be related to the spine and certain spinal conditions may have neurological causes. The Max Institute of Neurosciences is equipped to deal with conditions like Sciatica, inflammatory, autoimmune, degenerative diseases and more.

Paediatric Neurology is a speciality that deals with the diagnosis, treatment and management of neurological conditions caused by genetic and environmental factors or trauma and more, present among infants, children, adolescents and young people.

Deep brain stimulation is a new form of therapy that includes implanting electrodes in select parts of the brain to help regulate abnormal signals using electrical impulses. It is used to treat conditions like movement disorders like Tremor, Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy and more.

Craniotomy is a procedure used for diagnosing and treatment for several conditions like aneurysms, tumours, hematomas, swelling of the brain, and more. It includes surgically removing a part of the skull to expose the brain to conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The portion of the skull that is removed is put back in place after the procedure.

Our Technological Advancements

The state-of-the-art technologies and advanced procedures at Max Hospitals help you recover faster
from neurological emergencies and get back home sooner.

Bi-Plane Digital Cath Lab

The BiPlane system produces high-resolution 3D images of the blood vessels to the brain. It aids in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders related to the brain, spinal cord, neck and face. An interventional neurologist can safely treat disorders like aneurysms, arterio-venous malformations (AVM), stroke, nose bleeds and more, using minimally invasive techniques and thus eliminating the need for open surgery.

Transcranial
Doppler

This machine comprises multi-channel synchronous detection which helps with in depth detection of blood flow signals of various gates for comparison for left and right sides and monitoring. Under dynamic monitoring mode, multi-channel & multi-depth work mode could be chosen, and a dynamic monitoring diagram is helpful for doctors to evaluate cerebral hemodynamics of the patient.

Electromyography (EMG)

An electromyograph assesses the electrical potential generated by motor neurons when they are electrically or neurologically activated. An EMG helps detect muscle dysfunction, nerve dysfunction and muscle-to-nerve transmission.

Nerve Conduction Velocity

A part of nerve conduction studies, Nerve Conduction Velocity is used to assess the speed of nerve conduction through the nervous system. It detects the speed of an electrical impulse through the nerves. It is performed to detect dysfunction or damage to the nervous system.

Intracranial Pressure Monitoring

Intracranial pressure monitoring uses a device placed inside the head that senses the pressure inside the skull and sends measurements to a recording device. It is mainly used to detect if there is any brain swelling or stroke. If brain swelling goes undetected then the brain is deprived of oxygen rich blood which leads to starvation and swelling of the brain.

Electroencephalogram (EEG)

EEG is an electrophysiological monitoring method to record electrical activity of the brain. It is a non-invasive procedure- electrodes placed along the scalp to measure voltage fluctuations resulting from ionic current within the neurons of the brain. It records the brain's spontaneous electrical activity over a period of time.

Intraoperative MRI

Intraoperative MRI is used to produce real time images of abnormal masses and tissues in the brain during surgery. It helps doctors be precise during surgery and reduces the chance of surgical complications.
